Cupcake Carnival: Kristen from Miss Prissy Paige

Hi cupcake lovers! I’m Kristen from Miss Prissy Paige and I’m thrilled to be a part of the 1st Annual Cupcake Carnival. If you’re like me, then you find this tutorial especially sweet.

Cupcake Topiary – great for birthdays, parties, brunches, anything really!

Supplies Needed:
Styrofoam ball
Dowel rod
Florist foam {or more Styrofoam}
Terra cotta pot
Toothpicks
Mini cupcakes {store made or homemade, either works!}

Let’s get started…
1. Bake and ice your mini cupcakes {one box mix makes about 96 minis and you’ll need close to half for the topiary}.

2. Insert dowel rod into Styrofoam ball and then into florist foam. Trim florist foam to fit into your terra cotta pot. {If it feels wobbly, try adding some caulk or glue to the end of the dowel rod in the florist foam.}

3. Begin laying out your cupcake liners on the Styrofoam ball. I found using a window” technique worked best and covered the ball nicely. Here’s my depiction of a “window” technique.

{Keep in mind, you don’t need to cover the entire bottom, as you insert cupcakes it will begin to fill in and hide any exposed areas.}

4. Once your pattern is laid out, using 3 toothpicks per cupcake, insert toothpicks about halfway into the Styrofoam ball and then place cupcake on pointy ends.

5. Keep placing and then resist temptation to eat them all!

So there you have it, a super cute and tasty cupcake topiary. It's sure to be still the spotlight at your next event! A big thank you to Kimberly for inviting me to participate in the carnival!

Happy cupcaking!

Shows how you can be creative without a lot of excess work. Very nice presentation.

Great job MPP! Your so crafty. Can I put in my request now for a marble cupcake topiary with chocolate icing for my birthday next year? Keep up the good work. I hope to be eating I mean seeing a bunch of these in the near future.

Just got done eating some pizza and I could really use a cupcake topiary to finish the afternoon off right, right now. You could start coining the phrase "I'm topiaring today," which means I'm eating a full cupcake topiary all by myself today.
